NEW DVD RELEASES

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS
The first footage from the new animated adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns has been released, and even a few of Gotham's finest are glad to see that the Caped Crusader is back on the case.
This definitely looks like a faithful adaptation, it even features Miller's iconic cover in action. The scene in question appears to show one of Batman's first cases since retirement.
The animated film is part one of DC's two-part adaptation of Miller's run, and it's scheduled to hit DVD and Blu-ray on Sept. 25.
For the rundown, here's the official synopsis:
It's been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with race cars and liquor - but the bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants.
The voice cast is headlined by RoboCop himself, Peter Weller as Batman, with David Selby as Commissioner Gordon, Ariel Winter as Robin, Wade Williams as Two-Face and Michael McKean as Dr. Bartholomew Wolper.

I loved this DVD. I have always been a fan of Green Lantern -- and this DVD provides not only a good story line that is easy to follow for younger viewers, there are a number of inner stories that should strike a chord as well. The triump of good vs. evil is always at the center of Green Lantern stories. It is something I've grown up with and like to share with the younger folks in my family. They will sit for hours watching the DVDs.

Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and in Final Destination 5 it strikes again. During the bus ride to a corporate retreat, Sam (Nicholas D’Agosto) has a premonition in which he and most of his friends — as well as numerous others — die in a horrific bridge collapse. When his vision ends, events begin to mirror what he had seen, and he frantically ushers as many of his colleagues — including his friend, Peter (Miles Fisher), and girlfriend, Molly (Emma Bell) — away from the disaster before Death can claim them. But these unsuspecting souls were never supposed to survive, and in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda.

The legendary Looney Tunes cartoons are getting a 21st century relaunch and a CGI overhaul for a new generation.
