ORANGES AND SUNSHINE Release date: October
21, 2011
Oranges and Sunshine tells the story of Margaret Humphreys, a social
worker from Nottingham who uncovered one of the most significant social
scandals of recent times: the deportation of thousands of children from the
United Kingdom to Australia. Almost single-handedly, against overwhelming
odds and with little regard for her own well-being, Margaret reunited
thousands of families, brought authorities to account and drew worldwide
attention to an extraordinary miscarriage of justice. Children as young as
four had been told that their parents were dead, and been sent to children's
homes on the other side of the world. Many were subjected to appalling abuse.
They were promised oranges and sunshine: they got hard labour and life in
institutions.

Storyline:
Paloma is a serious, but deeply bored 11-year old, who has decided to kill herself on her twelfth birthday.
Fascinated by art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life and immediate circle, drawing trenchant
and often hilarious observations on the world around her. But as her appointment with death approaches, Paloma
finally meets some kindred spirits, in her building's grumpy concierge, and an enigmatic, elegant neighbor,
both of whom inspire Paloma to question her rather pessimistic outlook on life. Review:
This was a very engaging film. While some might find reading subtitles a bit distracting, you can easily get
into the story and forget about them. This film is unique, covering the complex emotions of the young -- and
the old -- at the same time. Paloma is a very intelligent 11-year-old who has decided to commit suicide on
her 12th birthday. Renee is the janitor in Poloma's building and they strike up a very unusual friendship when
a distinguished Japanese gentleman moves into their building. The relationships build between the three and it
is heartwarming to see Renee begin to live again -- getting her hair cut and styled, wearing a new dress,
really seeing life again after loosing her husband years ago. You get to see life, both through the lens of
Paloma's video camera -- and through Renee's growing affection for Poloma and the Japanese businessman.
Great story -- I would highly recommend it. Here's a video clip for you:

Synopsis:
An expedition looks for answers to something horrible in the forest, but the forest finds something horrible in
them.
One Morning in New England, 1940, the entire population of Friar New Hampshire - 572 people - walked together up
a winding mountain trail and into the wilderness. They left behind their clothes, their money, all of their
essentials. Even their dogs were abandoned, tied to posts and left to starve. No One knows why. A search party
dispatched by the U.S. Army eventually discovered the remains of nearly 300 of Friar's evacuees. Many had frozen
to death. Others were cruelly and mysteriously slaughtered. The bodies of the remaining citizens are still
unaccounted for. Over the years, a quiet cover-up operation managed to weave the story of Friar into the stuff
of legends and backwoods fairy tales. The town has slowly repopulated, but the vast wilderness is mostly untracked,
with the northern-most stretches off limits to local hunters and loggers. In 2008, the coordinates for the
"YELLOWBRICKROAD" trail head were declassified. The first official expedition into a dark and twisted wilderness
will attempt to solve the mystery of the lost citizens of Friar...and reach the end of the trail.
Review:
If you like creepy movies, here's one for you. Similar to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, a group sets out to discover
what happened to a group of people in 1940. This movie is rated "R" for a reason, so beware. The clip above
is just a sample of what you will find in the movie itself. It starts out as a friendly expedition -- and ends
badly.
Lionsgate has released a new trailer from the upcoming THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE, starring Dominic Cooper. THE DEVIL'S
DOUBLE debuts in theaters July 29th, 2011.
SYNOPSIS: Based on a gripping, unbelievable true story of money, power and opulent decadence, Lionsgate's THE
DEVIL'S DOUBLE takes a white-knuckle ride deep into the lawless playground of excess and violence known as Bagdad,
1987. Summoned from the frontline to Saddam Hussein's palace, Iraqi army lieutenant Latif Yahia (Dominic Cooper)
is thrust into the highest echelons of the "royal family" when he's ordered to become the 'fiday' - or body double
- to Saddam's son, the notorious "Black Prince" Uday Hussein (also Dominic Cooper), a reckless, sadistic party-boy
with a rabid hunger for sex and brutality. With his and his family's lives at stake, Latif must surrender his former
self forever as he learns to walk, talk and act like Uday. But nothing could have prepared him for the horror of
the Black Prince's psychotic, drug-addled life of fast cars, easy women and impulsive violence. With one wrong move
costing him his life, Latif forges an intimate bond with Sarrab (Ludivine Sangier), Uday's seductive mistress
who's haunted by her own secrets. But as war looms with Kuwait and Uday's depraved gangster regime threatens to
destroy them all, Latif realizes that escape from the devil's den will only come at the highest possible cost.
Featuring a riveting double performance by Dominic Cooper (AN EDUCATION, MAMA MIA) in the roles of Latif Yahia and
Uday Hussein, THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE is a dynamic, chilling adaptation of Latif Yahia's autobiographical novel, charting
one man's defiant struggle to survive a viper's pit of corruption and brutality. The film is directed by Lee Tamahori
(DIE ANOTHER DAY, XXX: STATE OF THE UNION) and written by Michael Thomas (BACKBEAT, SCANDAL).
RAMMBOCK
Opens in AMC Theaters on May 4, 2011
Synopsis:
Breaking up can be a touch, but trying to reconcile in a city full of walking dead can really add complications
to an already difficult relationship. Filmmakers Marvin Kren and Benjamin Hessler have given us Germany's first
foray into the Zombie genre, RAMMBOCK, an unlikely tale of love, terror and survival set against the dystopic
backdrop of a zombie-infested Berlin.
Heartbroken and clueless, Michael (Michael Fuith) arrives in Berlin to win back the affections of brooding ex-girlfriend
Gabi (Anka Graczyk). But he's in for a little disappointment: she's not home and the city is rapidly overrun by
bloodthirsty hordes of zombiefied Berliners. His only companion? The plucky Harper (Theo Trebs, "The White Ribbon"),
a teenage plumber's apprentice at work in the apartment complex. From their overnight redoubt in Gabi's bedroom,
the unlikely duo must escape the infested building, outwit the undead and find her…before it's too late. Rammbock
is hide and seek…with zombies!
Review:
I am not usually one to watch zombie movies, but I thought I'd give this one a shot. It is subtitled, but
after a few minutes, you forget you are reading and just settle down to watch the movie. Unlike so many recent
movies, there is not a handsome leading man, but an ordinary looking fellow (Michael) pining away for a woman
who has broken off their relationship. Michael goes to his girlfriend's apartment only to find her young friend, Harper. As night falls, they hear commotion in the courtyard. They see people attacking others, biting their
necks, killing them. The undead try to get Michael & Harper but they escape and evade the group.
The story gets interesting when Michael runs into Gabi - with another guy. They also meet another young girl and they
band together to escape.
There is an interesting ending, one you may expect, but maybe not.
The movie is entertaining, not too bloody (which I liked) and you will find yourself rooting for Michael and Harper
as they race from place to place looking for a way out of the city.
