What's New

UPDATES: I know it may be hard to find the things that have been added to the page each day, so I'm going to try a couple of different methods. Today, I'll use this color for all updates. Tomorrow the update's information will revert to the color of the rest of the page. Only updates will be in this color. Hopefully this will help you identify NEW items.

JMS ON CBS' SUNDAY MORNING

I hope you all had a chance to see JMS on CBS' Sunday Morning program yesterday. It was great. Not only did it show JMS' new office, but he went through some of the ideas behind "Rising Stars" and there were a few very good clips from Babylon 5.

New Projects

Now that the holidays are behind us, I have a number of things I want to include here at The Zocalo Today, i.e. more interviews, chats, etc. If you have suggestions as to things you'd like to see included here, drop me a line at sgbruckner@aol.com.

NEW JMS STORIES

It appears that JMS will be writing an original story for the Official Babylon 5 Magazine. In an upcoming issue, there will be an entry form where you can choose one of four areas for JMS to write. The story will appear in Issue #22.

TIM CHOATE INTERVIEW

I talked to Tim in November, after he had done his "Crusade" episode. He provided me with some interesting comments concerning his work on both Crusade and Babylon 5. While reading will not do it justice, he did answer a number of questions I think every Babylon 5 has had about Zathras! Interview Page.

BABYLON 5 AND CHARITIES -- HOLIDAY PROJECTS

If you haven't done something nice for someone lately, what are you waiting for? Take a look at our charity page and see if you can help any of the organizations listed. It will make YOU feel good, and help some individuals less fortunate.

Babylon 5 Charities includes Pat Tallman's charity, Penny Lane . It is trying to brighten up the holiday season for the children supported by this organization. See what you can do to help!

NEW MESSAGE BOARD

Want to leave a note for someone, want to wish someone a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR? Now you have someplace to do that! Just put up a simple message board. Want something posted, drop me a note and I'll get it into the message board.

BOOK REVIEW

Dave Brown from the UK has done a wonderful book review of "Final Reckoning" and passed it along. Drop over to the Review Page and see what he's said about the last of the Psi Corps Trilogy books.

If you've finished "Legions of Fire" and want to share your views, send them along. It doesn't necessarily have to be a review, but let us know what you think of Peter David's latest Babylon 5 novel.

JMS SPEAKS

Last updated: December 31, 1999

Just put some new material in this section you might want to check out!

Want to know what's on JMS' mind these days? Read excerpts from internet statements JMS has made on subjects like: Jerry Doyle running for Congress; B5 being included in a list of shows using vulgarity, etc. This and more is in the JMS Speaks section.

RISING STARS OUT Issue #3 of the "Rising Stars" series from Top Cow by J. Michael Straczynski, hit the stands last week. It follows the story of Lee Jackson, the pyrokinetic.

LEGIONS OF FIRE IS OUT

Peter David's "Legions of Fire" -- book one of a trilogy on Centauri Prime, is out. DelRey has a brief synopsis of the book out at their website http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.cgi?isbn=0345427181. Drop over and have a peek -- unless you are afraid of being spoiled!

Just use the button above!

UPCOMING BOOK SIGNINGS

Bruce Boxleitner will be doing a number of book signings in England and Ireland, January 24-February 4. For those of you who have not read Bruce's book Frontier Earth be sure to check it out. It's an interesting story!

The schedule for Bruce's signings can be found at On the Road with Bruce Boxleitner. Let's hope the publisher remembers we read here in North America as well and sets something up for us here as well.

NEW CONVENTION REPORTS

The Convention Reports page includes: Sci-Fi Cruise, Best of Both Worlds (Sydney), Praxis, Tropicon, Slanted Fedora (Raleigh), Vulkon (Orlando) and United Fan Con are now loaded in the Reports section. My report on Far Point, with a few photos is also there. Catch the new photos in the convention photo gallery.

If you have experiences you'd like to share -- or photos -- send them along. We'd love to see/read them.

KEEPING UP WITH CAST AND CREW

Carrie Dobro is doing a play entitled "The Powder Room" and stars Sally Kirckland. It's an ensemble piece about a group of women who come to take a woman's writing course (taught by Sally) only to have a man enroll in the class to much dismay. It's playing at The Court Theatre, 722 N. La Cienga Blvd. LA CA 90048. It opens January 13 and runs thru February 20th. Shows Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights at 8:00 pm, Sunday matinee (either at 2:00 or 3:00PM) and Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM. Carrie's character is one of the women in the class named Ether Girl -- she's an anetheseologist.

In a chat recently, Tim Choate mentioned that he was going off to a meeting about a part in a play, "Medea". Well, good news, Tim got the part of Jason. The production will be at at the Knightsbridge Theatre (35 S. Raymond St.) in Pasadena. More information will be available on this soon, so stay tuned.

The PAX TV network will begin showing "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" in January. A LOT of Bruce Boxleitner fans have been anxious to see this series again, so check your local cable listings and see when it will be shown in your area.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

This is for the Sci-Fi Channel in England in February...

NEW SERIES ON SCI·FI
AMERICAN GOTHIC

The acclaimed supernatural thriller series starts on Sci·Fi this month in the new ‘Altered States’ programming block on Tuesdays nights. The series is about the residents of the small town of Trinity, South Carolina which has a population of 10,000. By outward appearances Trinity appears to be the picture perfect example of small town rural America. However in reality, Trinity is a community which is crippled by an evil force and the evil force is the local sheriff Lucas Buck. He has a hold over the town which he uses without conscience or regard for the law with the help of supernatural powers. He has a vision on how the town should be run, people who agree with the vision lead relatively normal lives, those who don’t are in for a hard time. (1995)

Starring: Gary Cole (Crusade), Paige Turco (NYPD Blue), Jake Weber. Premieres: Tues 22nd at 9:00pm repeated Sundays at 11:00pm

SUGGESTIONS

If you have suggestions of other things that should be added to The Zocalo, please drop me a note at the e-mail address above or at sgbruckner@aol.com.

Subscribing to The Zocalo Today

When you subscribe to the e-groups mailing, you have 4 options for receiving messages from the group -- regular e-mail, a digest summary or a digest daily full-text of messages distributed on a regular basis or viewing on the web only. Choose which method works best for you! Just go to www.egroups.com and use your e-mail address to log in to the system and edit your profile. To read messages on the net, just type in http://www.egroups.com/list/thezocalo.

The Zocalo is a moderated mailing list -- which means that no one can post to the listing but me! Sorry about that -- that's why you receive an error when you try responding to a note regarding The Zocalo. It's one of the restrictions I've run into when using e-groups.com. It prevents responses from rippling through the group, but forces you to do a new e-mail message when you want to respond to a topic or send in information.

Thank you for your support. Be sure to bookmark this page so that you can return often to see if anything new has been added. The new buttons will help you move around the various parts of the newsletter. The subscription listing will be for reminders of things coming up -- and to highlight changes at The Zocalo. This is not the old Zocalo -- where everything was in the e-mail message delivered to you. That's what made it too long and prevented you from enjoying it more. The new version of the Z is short and to the point!

LOOKING AHEAD!

If you would like to write something -- like a book review -- for placement in The Zocalo, drop me a line and let's talk. I'm at bruckner@isnnews.net or The Zocalo.

HELP!!!

If you would like to take some flyers to a convention to help spread the word that The Zocalo is Back! drop me a line. I'll be glad to send you some in the mail. I've created a PDF file that can be downloaded and printed. Flyer Thanks for helping to spread the word about The Z!

Take care and I look forward to hearing from you.
