What's New

UPDATES: I know it may be hard to find the things that have been added to the page each day, so I'm going to try a couple of different methods. Today, I'll use this color for all updates. Tomorrow the update's information will revert to the color of the rest of the page. Only updates will be in this color. Hopefully this will help you identify NEW items.

VISIONCON

The Zocalo will not be updated from Thursday through Sunday. I'll be at the VisionCon convention in Springfield, Missouri, showing the bloopers and doing some panels. What a great way to spend a weekend! Don't let that stop you from sending along your discussion responses or votes for your favorite episodes. It will take me a little while to catch up, but that's half the fun! Take care. See some of you soon!

BABYLON 5 VIDEO LISTING

Mike Helba has pulled together a fantastic listing of the Babylon 5 videos for your use. He has them listed with episode titles and volume numbers. Video Listing. Thanks Mike. This is a great resource.

Mike has also been doing a lot of very nifty things over at About.com. This week he has a profile of Susan Ivanova; last week it was Jeffrey Sinclair. Both are detailed and very nicely done. Hope you'll drop over to see Mike's place. Use this link to read the Susan Ivanova Profile While there, try out the Babylon 5 Trivia. It's pretty nifty.

OTHER SCIENCE FICTION NEWS

B Earth Don't know if you have been keeping track of the new "Battlefield Earth" movie featuring John Travolta. There have been some fantastic pictures out on the net, including this poster. John will be the guest at StarFest 2K in April. While they don't have a B5 guest listed, along with John is Kate Mulgrew, John de Lancie and Lisa Howard. For more information, go to www.starland.com.

Guess what? Starland DOES have a Babylon 5 person coming to the convention. Stephen Austin, yes our favorite Pak'Ma'Ra is joining the convention in April.

MAGELLAN -- Richard Hatch is putting together a new series entitled "Magellan". He will be showing a clip from this series at VisionCon this month. Richard had been trying to bring back "Battlestar Galactica" but has been tied up in rights. From the reaction of the fans to his initial "BG" footage at DragonCon last year, let's hope "Magellan" gets off the ground.

BABYLON 5/CRUSADE POLL SITE

From: "Jim Green"

Some of us have put together a B5 Poll Site, http://57132117.home.icq.com/B5pollpage4.htm, and a Crusade Poll Site, http://57132117.home.icq.com/Crpollpage.html .

There are now two for Crusade and two for Babylon 5 from us plus links to four outside polls. This is open to the whole B5 community.

The Deja polls rate Crusade and B5. Thanks to our community, they are now 1 and 2 in the Sci-Fi ratings.

You can suggest topics and question and vote for future ones. We are also looking for links.

Give us your opinion, thanks

Stephen Austin

CHAT TRANSCRIPT AVAILABLE

We had a great chat with Stephen Austin on February 3. The transcript is now available at the TNT website. Be sure to drop over to Stephen's www.stephenaustin.com and check out the convention calendar to see if Stephen will be attending a convention near you!

BABYLON 5 CHATS

There are a couple of regular chats that you might want to take advantage. One is over at About.com. Mike Helba has organized a weekly chat on Wednesdays at 10pm EST. http://babylon5.about.com/entertainment/babylon5/mpchat.htm.

Another chat is starting up at Groucho's Yahoo Club site. The chat is scheduled for the first Sunday of each month beginning at 5:30pm ET on Sunday. Groucho's is a good place to drop over and chat anytime. I've found a pretty good group of people there at lunchtime (12pm EST).

CRUSADE VIDEOS AVAILABLE

Ranger Sean says that CRUSADE is now scheduled for a video release in the UK. Each tape will contain 2 episodes; the seventh tape will have only one. Warner UK will release the first two tapes on March 6 and then release one tape per month. For more information, plus a look at the video sleeves, check out http://www.starfury.co.uk.

NEW NPR SF RADIO DRAMA SERIES

Harlan Ellison will host Beyond 2000, a series of radio dramas based on clasic SF stories and novels. The show premieres on National Public Radio in April. "This will be the most ambitious attempt at doing (science fiction) radio drama since the 1950s, when Dimension X and X Minus One were on," Ellison told Sci-Fi Wire. You can read more about the upcoming series at Sci Fi Wire.

ADDITIONAL REFERENCE PAGES

I've added a new page to the reference index. This page covers magazines like DreamWatch, TV Zone, StarBurst and others that have covered Babylon 5 and Crusade over the last several years. This index will expand as I add more issues and new magazines.

If you have magazines that have featured Babylon 5 or Crusade that are not listed, send along their issue number and a note to indicate what the article was about. It would be nice to have a fairly comprehensive listing of Babylon 5 publications here.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Peter Woodward has heard you all asking why he had no photo with his father, Edward, during their Crusade episode together. He now has a photo from "The Long Road" that his father will be signing. Peter will have the photo with him at upcoming conventions.

Hi Sandy:

Had a B5 sighting the other day. I was watching the 1985 movie "Weird Science" (Anthony Michael Hall, etc) and spotted Robert Rusler as one of the high school kids in the movie. He had a few lines and played along side Robert Downy, jr. as one of the "in-crowd" teens.

NEW CONVENTION AHEAD

Last year, when TNT canceled J. Michael Straczynski's Babylon 5 spinoff Crusade, a group of fans joined together in an effort to save the show. As we fought together, we discovered that we shared not only a love of Babylon 5 and Crusade, but also a passionate commitment to the progressive values advocated in these shows and other quality science fiction. To put this energy to use, a group of us have formed a new nonprofit corporation, The Ulysses Foundation, which will raise money for research that combines scientific progress and social justice. The proceeds of our fundraising campaigns will be donated to reputable research institutions engaged in projects that reflect our interests.

In the spirit of the Excalibur's mission and in honor of Crusade, the Ulysses Foundation is proud to announce our first campaign:

Crusade for a Cure:
A Call to Arms against AIDS

". . . to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield."

Crusade for a Cure is a year-long fundraising drive culminating in a convention and gala dinner, the purpose of which is to raise money for research toward affordable AIDS vaccines and treatments.

The convention and dinner will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, in Costa Mesa, California on September 15-17, 2000. David Allen Brooks and Maggie Egan are *confirmed* as guests, and Peter Woodward, Carrie Dobro, and Marjean Holden have expressed their willingness to participate. Invitations are also being sent to Daniel Dae Kim, Gary Cole, Tracy Scoggins, Richard Biggs, Bruce Boxleitner, Jeff Conaway, Tim Choates, Steven Furst, Fiona Avery, Evan Chen, John Vulich, and others. (Note: Guests reserve the right to cancel their appearances due to emergencies or other professional commitments.) All profits from the convention, dinner, and sales of related merchandise will be donated to a premier AIDS research foundation.

For further information and to order tickets for the convention and dinner come to the Ulysses Foundation website, www.UlyssesFoundation.org. In the near future, Crusade for a Cure merchandise including t-shirts, postcards, and more will also be available on the site. You can send questions about the convention to ulyssescon@ulyssesfoundation.org. Send all other inquiries to ulysses@ulyssesfoundation.org or president@ulyssesfoundation.org.
