WELCOME NEW READERS

There has been a considerable jump in the number people coming to The Zocalo Today! WELCOME! We hope that you will feel comfortable here and come back often. New information is added as soon as it is received, so the page changes constantly. Again, WELCOME!

EASTER BREAK

HAVE A HAPPY AND JOYOUS EASTER HOLIDAY!

CINEFANTASTIQUE -- JUNE ISSUE

Just got back from my weekly magazine run. The magazine is here and it is MARVELOUS!!! If you get any magazine this year, it should be this one! It is one of the most complete treatments of the series I've ever seen. It not only has some great interviews with cast and crew, but it takes every episode of the series, has a brief synopsis and memorable quote. It's a marvelous combination of narrative about the show and comments from the individuals directly involved with it. While it can be considered a bit pricey at $11.95, I think it's worth every cent -- and then some!

Need help in getting a copy, drop me a note. I can pick them up as long as they are on the newstands near me.

THANK YOU NOTE TO SFC

For those of you have missed the BIG news -- the Science Fiction Channel has purchased the rights to air Babylon 5! Episodes begin airing September 25, running each day at 7pmET.

As a way of showing our gratitude to SFC for giving Babylon 5 a home (along with a very good timeslot) we are creating a very special THANK YOU note that will be sent to Bonnie Hammer at SFC.

To everyone who has taken the time so far to send in your name/city/state/country - Thank You. Have you seen the list lately? Thanks to SFC! Look at those Finns! A special Thank You goes to those outside the US who have included their names to this list. While they will not directly benefit from SFC's airing of the series, we can ALL HOPE that they will benefit in other ways!

It's wonderful watching all the names, cities, states -- even countries being added. This will make a wonderful addition to SFC's mailbox -- and hopefully showing them a small segment of the fans that are loyal to the show.

Want to be included? Do you know of B5 fans who would like to have their names included? Send them along with name, city/state and country. The deadline for adding names is April 30.

What's New

CNN's Showbiz Today had a feature on Angela Lansbury's new Murder She Wrote. Sitting pool side with her black laptop she utters "Oh, too much eagerness on the part of one person to solve the crime, is usually a sign of the killer himself" to some unseen person." JMS is no where to be seen as they pan the scene, but he comments: "And Daniel Dae Kim's doing a great job, btw. We actually expanded his part to accommodate the quality of his work."

New photos have been added to the Photo Gallery -- from the Gallifrey convention.

I've gotten a couple of great photos of Andreas, Peter and Rick with the Crossroads Fan Club in Germany. Those are new on the Fan Club page.

There is a new item listed in the Trading Post. For all you Ivanova fans, Chris has a great deal for you so pop over to The Trading Post and check it out.

NEW CHAT SITE

E-Groups, the system that maintains our mailing list, underwent a substantial upgrade this weekend. There has always been a chat feature at the site, but the new one looks very much improved. If you'd like to try it out, the URL is http://www.egroups.com/chat/thezocalo .

Robin Downes

KEEPING UP WITH CAST AND CREW

A number of people are busy, but I don't have all the details. So here's what I have so far: Stephen Furst is busy directing a new film.

David Allen Brooks is working on a movie.

From SciFi News of the Week (http://www.scifi.com/sfw/current/news.html):

Babylon 5 actress Claudia Christian will write, produce and perform in Claudia Christian's Shorts, a series of story vignettes for the GalaxyOnline.com Web site. The shorts will begin production in late April, GalaxyOnline.com announced.

The first episode, The Experiment, will showcase Christian in three separate vignettes tied together through an isolated telephone booth located in the middle of the desert. "The Experiment is very progressive and challenging, and we are shooting the piece on 35mm film, which gives us top-quality production values that translate well to the Internet and beyond," Christian said.

On Friday, April 21 at 7pm PACIFIC, 10pm EASTERN Robin Atkin-Downes will discuss his upcoming role on the WB series, "Charmed" at Pat Tallman and Jeffrey Willerth's chat room Starglaziers. You can also get there through Pat Tallman's site. or Jeffrey's site www.kosh.org.

Robin Atkin Downes will appear on Charmed, Thursday, April 20 at 9pm on the WB Network. Thanks Robin for the great picture!

Here's a website for Bill Mumy's latest project, Overload . It has interviews, trailers, etc.

Marjean Holden will become a regular on "Beastmaster". She will be on her way back to Austrlia, where the series is filmed soon. Season Two filming begins April 11. Marjean's episodes, as her new character Arina, begin in May.

Stephen Furst will provide one of the voices for one of the Space Rangers in the upcoming "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command'' coming to ABC and UPN in October. Walt Disney Television Animation is producing 65 episodes of ``Buzz'' -- 52 for UPN's ``Disney's One Too'' and 13 for ABC's Saturday morning lineup. Read all about it at http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20000303/en/television-lightyear_1.html.

Peter Woodward is currently working on an upcoming pilot entitled "MK3", a contempory version of "The Three Musketeers". Peter will play the 'Richelieu' role. It is being produced by Warner Brothers for Fox, hopefully for the fall season. Jerry Doyle is running for Congress. Check out his new website at www.jerrydoyle.com .

RISING STARS INFORMATION

RISING STARS ISSUE #6

JMS says, "Things start moving awfully fast now." Patriot and Matthew Bright star in the next incredible chapter of the acclaimed Rising Stars story line. Also, Poet begins to confront the man responsible for the murders, and a dark alliance starts to form between the killer and other specials interested in self-preservation. Don't miss a minute of this highly revered and fan favorite comic as J. Michael Straczynski continues to please fans with his award winning writing! Rising Stars #7
Sides are being taken, lines drawn, alliances formed. Now that the identity of the one responsible for killing the Specials is known, the close family unit that was their life until now begins to shatter into mistrust, suspicion and violence.

JMS gives us a snapshot of how he writes "Rising Stars" in the JMS Speaks section. It's an interesting read, so don't miss it.

RS-French Just got a note with some good news for French-speaking fans of Rising Stars. The first volume translated into French appeared last week. Each volume includes 52 pages. In volume #1, you'll find issues #1 and #2 of the original version. They will be printed twice-monthly, distributed in France, Switzerland, and Canada. Thanks Ranger Catherine for the info.

Shipping in April: Rising Stars #0
Find out how it all began. Top Cow is pleased to re-present the first introductory story of Rising Stars here in the acclaimed Rising Stars #0. What if a world without heroes suddenly had 113 of them? How would the rest of humanity react? More importantly, how would those 113 souls now fit in to normal life? Written and created by acclaimed television writer J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Crusade) and drawn by the highly talented Keu Cha (Darkness/Witchblade), this special issue establishes the compelling world of Rising Stars!

Rising Stars #0 issue will ship with an all new cover by artist Keu Cha.

NEED HELP IN GETTING RISING STARS?

I am very fortunate to have 2 comic stores that order a lot of issues of "Rising Stars". Since I am picking up a couple of copies for friends already, I was wondering if there are others I can send the comic book to -- setting up a sort of mailing list for "Rising Stars". If you are interested, drop me a note at sgbruckner@aol.com.

NEWS ABOUT JOE'S COMICS!

In the new issue of WIZARD Magazine hitting the stands this Wednesday (along with issue 6 of Rising Stars), you'll find a two page article that may be of some interest....

Rising Stars has done *extremely* well for Top Cow, to the point where they asked me if I'd like my own imprint. I said I'd be flattered. They wanted to know what we should call it. I looked around at all the other heightened titles -- Chaos, Awesome, Megadeathtech kinds of titles designed to be impressive and massive -- and said, "How about just...Joe's Comics?" As in, "I'd like some of Joe's Comics," or "Read at Joe's," with a big 1950s diner clock logo. They thought it was a great idea.

So the imprint starts this fall: mini-series, maxi-series, one shots and the like, which I'll write and TC will print. The basic deal is: I write whatever I want, and they publish it. It's a terrific deal, and the TC folks are amazing to work with.

For more in depth info, see the Wizard issue.

(More announcements to come soon, including prose stuff, web stuff, and the reason I was on a soundstage today watching my words being filmed.)

Maggie Egan

MAGGIE EGAN CHAT

I hope some of you had a chance to chat with Maggie Egan, the ISN Anchor from Babylon 5, Wednesday on Yahoo. It was great. Maggie answered a number of questions about her experience on Babylon 5 and around the industry. The transcript of the chat is now available at the TNT site . For more information about Maggie, visit her website at www.isnanchor.com.

BABYLON 5 CHATS

Pat Tallman and Jeffrey Willerth have a chat room at their site Starglaziers. You can also get there through Pat Tallman's site.

Jeffrey is setting up some chats (5pm PST; 8pm EST) you might be interested in:
Sunday, April 23, Tim Earls (designer for Star Trek Voyager -- and artist for Babylon 5) and Mojo (Star Trek/ Foundation Imaging).

There are a couple of regular chats that you might want to take advantage. One is over at About.com. Mike Helba has organized a weekly chat on Wednesdays at 10pm EST. http://babylon5.about.com/entertainment/babylon5/mpchat.htm.

On the first Sunday of the month, there will be a chat at Groucho's Babylon 5 Calvalcade beginning at 5:30pm ET. Groucho's is a good place to drop over and chat anytime.

NEW CRUSADE PETITION

The campaign to resurrect "Crusade" has taken many forms, and now it blasts off full steam with the new petition campaign. Television producers respond to demand...and there is no better way to express demand for a show than sheer weight of numbers. If you are committed to seeing this show survive and enter production again, just follow the link below and follow the instructions given. This is a very easy task. In a nutshell, get anyone and everyone who is either a B5 / Crusade fan, or just enjoys quality television to sign it, and then send them all in to the Crusade Campaign. The more signatures, equals more weight that Warner Brothers will not be able to ignore. Everything you need to know is right here:

REFERENCE PAGES

I've updated the B5 index . This page covers magazines like DreamWatch, TV Zone, StarBurst and others that have covered Babylon 5 and Crusade over the last several years. This index will expand as I add more issues and new magazines.

The Official Babylon 5 Magazine is indexed here as well. With the closure of the magazine in May, you'll want to see which magazines you have -- and which ones you will want to collect. The index may help you make a decision on which ones to choose. The Fan Club has many of the issues at thestation.com , making it very easy to complete your collection.

If you have magazines that have featured Babylon 5 or Crusade that are not listed, send along their issue number and a note to indicate what the article was about. It would be nice to have a fairly comprehensive listing of Babylon 5 publications here.

SEND A B5 POSTCARD

Warner Bros. has a Babylon 5 postcard delivery service on their site at Babylon 5 Cards. Send a note to a friend to say Happy St. Patrick's Day or just to say HI.

CALLING ALL CLUBS

There are a number of fabulous Babylon 5/Crusade Clubs around the world. I'd like to begin listing them here on The Zocalo Today. Eric dropped me a note the other day providing information about a Club in France. I know there are other clubs in Brazil, Germany, Russia -- and who knows how many here in the US. Let's get a listing together. Perhaps we can share resources, even get together as we travel around. Drop the information about your Club to me at sgbruckner@aol.com or bruckner@isnnews.net. That information will be added to the new B5 Fan Club Listing.

So far, we have clubs listed from France, Germany and Italy! That's fantastic. Let's hear from others -- even those in the U.S.!!!

CALLING REVIEWERS

Have you read the Babylon 5 books? Do you want to share a review? Want to voice an opinion? Here's the place to do it! Send along your review or opinion about any of the Babylon 5 books. It will be posted on the Review Page for others to read -- and comment about!

NEXT NOVEL ON THE HORIZON

Peter David's next installation of the Centauri Trilogy: BABYLON 5: ARMIES OF LIGHT AND DARK is due in the bookstores in May!

Looks like April/May/June are going to be a banner months. Peter's next novel, the CINEFANTASTIQUE issue is already out, the last Official Babylon 5 magazine, and JMS' last story in "Amazing Stories"!

ASSISTANCE FOR B5 NOVELS

There has been a fascinating discussion going on in the B5 newsgroup about what fans can do to help make the Babylon 5 novels more noticeable on bookshelves. One reader suggests:

Maybe putting a call out to Babylon 5 fans to ask that they "front" Babylon 5 books in their local bookstores, and ask that they be featured more prominently. By "fronting", I mean to turn them from spine-on view to face-on view, to increase their visibility. Spine-on, all paperbacks look the same. This only works for books that they have a few of, since four paperbacks makes a cube shape, and therefore takes up the same amount of space spine-on vs. face-on.

It would certainly help if Del Rey would send along some book displays to bookstores -- especially the larger ones. Doing a little advertising certainly wouldn't hurt the cause!
