What's New

FAR POINT

IT WAS MARVELOUS!!!! I don't know what more I can say about Far Point! It was THE best convention I've been to in a LONG time. I had a ball and I hope everyone who attended had as much fun as I did. Peter Jurasik was superb, Peter Woodward and Carrie Dobro were fantastic -- and surprise guest Bob Krimmer was a hoot! The other guests there were no slouches either! JAMES DARREN -- ahhh -- I think that I'll have to get copies of the DS9 episodes featuring Vic Fontaine! This man is marvelous. Not only does he look stupendous -- he can croon a tune that will melt your heart! Mary Kay Adams, who I remember more from her "Guiding Light" days than as Na'Toth on B5, was one of the sweetest people. She and Peter J. had a great time dancing to one song James sang on stage Sunday afternoon. Krimmer got into the act as well -- dancing with Peter J. Now that's a match made somewhere! More on this later.

GALAXY BALL

The 2nd Annual Galaxy Ball, hosted by Robert Beltran from ST Voyager, will be held on October 30 in Los Angeles at the Marriott Hotel Los Angeles Airport. It supports the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. Robert has gathered a stellar (no pun intended) group of individuals this year -- the guest list is phenominal! Included so far are:

Bruce Boxleitner
Jason Carter
Walter Koenig -- new addition
Robert Trebor (Xena & Hercules)
Kate Mulgrew
Robert McNeill
Ethan Phillips
Tim Russ
Garrett Wang

I think that it is marvelous that this individuals are giving of their time for this very worthwhile cause!

You can learn all about it over at Galaxy Ball . Send an e-mail note to: galaxyball@aol.com. If you aren't on the web, you can write to Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles, Inc., 8949 Reseda Blvd., Suite 109, Northridge, CA 91324-3943 or call (818) 718-6363; fax (818) 718-6362.

NEW SECTIONS OF THE ZOCALO

I have added a couple of new sections to The Zocalo. One is Letters. Sometimes there's something you want to share and there's no appropriate place -- so send me a letter and I'll put it into the Letters section.

The other new section deals with CHARITIES. While at Far Point this weekend, I learned about two charities that will tug at your heartstrings! One is supported by Peter Jurasik and he did one heck of a job this weekend raising money! A little baby is in need of a double transplant -- liver and intestines! Peter is putting a tremendous effort into supporting the National Transplant Assistance Fund. Their web site is at National Transplant Assistance Fund. More on this soon from Peter.

There are a LOT of other charities supported by the B5 Cast and others in the science fiction community -- like the Galaxy Ball at the top of the page! I'll be gathering more information to place on the Charity page so that you can learn about what these wonderful people are doing to help those who are less fortunate.

TRADING PARTNERS: Here's a suggestion for those of you in the US or abroad that find it's really hard to get your hands on Babylon 5 merchandise -- whether it's magazines or whatever. Why not find yourself a trading partner! For example, I have a great friend in the UK -- Mark -- who helps me with all the magazines published in the UK that feature B5 or Crusade! He sends me the magazines and in exchange, I send him things he can't get in England -- like the trading cards or the novels or the "Rising Stars" comic books! There are a lot of things that you can exchange -- and it's FUN too!

BABYLON 5/CRUSADE IN PRINT

TV Zone - Issue #119 -- has a great special feature on Crusade. It's a good behind-the-scenes look at "Patterns of the Soul". This was a big episode for Carrie Dobro's character "Dureena" and the photos from the episode are great! Also included are some reviews of Crusade episodes -- in the back of the issue! Don't go there if you are a FAN of the series!

Cult Times - Special #11 -- Has the entire Crusade cast on the cover! Cool! They do a good job of talking with the cast about their characters and how they felt about the series!

Cult Times -- #48 - September -- talks with John Copeland about his efforts on Crusade as producer and director. John has been intricately involved in all aspects of the show and always has valuable insights.

SUGGESTIONS

If you have suggestions of other things that should be added to The Zocalo, please drop me a note at the e-mail address above or at sgbruckner@aol.com.

What is The Zocalo Today?

The Zocalo is a newsletter providing information on Babylon 5 and Crusade. It consists of three major parts: the web site, an e-mail group and a hard-copy newsletter published once a month. The hope is to get information to you on your favorite programs as easily and as rapidly as possible.

How To Subscribe?

When you subscribe to the e-groups mailing, you have 4 options for receiving messages from the group -- regular e-mail, a digest summary or a digest daily full-text of messages distributed on a regular basis or viewing on the web only. Choose which method works best for you! Just go to www.egroups.com and use your e-mail address to log in to the system and edit your profile. To read messages on the net, just type in http://www.egroups.com/list/thezocalo.

The Zocalo is a moderated mailing list -- which means that no one can post to the listing but me! Sorry about that -- that's why you receive an error when you try responding to a note regarding The Zocalo. It's one of the restrictions I've run into when using e-groups.com. It prevents responses from rippling through the group, but forces you to do a new e-mail message when you want to respond to a topic or send in information.

Thank you for your support. Be sure to bookmark this page so that you can return often to see if anything new has been added. The new buttons will help you move around the various parts of the newsletter. The subscription listing will be for reminders of things coming up -- and to highlight changes at The Zocalo. This is not the old Zocalo -- where everything was in the e-mail message delivered to you. That's what made it too long and prevented you from enjoying it more. The new version of the Z is short and to the point!

LOOKING AHEAD!

Interviews will be coming!

If you would like to write something -- like a book review -- for placement in The Zocalo, drop me a line and let's talk. I'm at bruckner@isnnews.net or The Zocalo.

HELP!!!

If you would like to take some flyers to a convention to help spread the word that The Zocalo is Back! drop me a line. I'll be glad to send you some in the mail. I've created a PDF file that can be downloaded and printed. Flyer Thanks for helping to spread the word about The Z!

Take care and I look forward to hearing from you.
