The navigational buttons above will take you to the various pages at The Zocalo Today! Please feel free to wander about. There's a lot to see.

UPDATES: I know it may be hard to find the things that have been added to the page each day, so I'm going to try a couple of different methods. I'll use this color for all updates; information will revert to the color of the rest of the page. Only updates will be in this color. Hopefully this will help you identify NEW items.

WELCOME NEW READERS

welcome

Please, get comfortable! Take your shoes off and stay a while.

This is an interactive newsletter. If you have suggestions, please send them along. The Zocalo Today is as much YOUR newsletter as it is mine! I'm just pulling together things for you! Our weekly discussion topic is just one way you can interact with other Z readers. Send along letters, sightings of B5 cast & crew in other projects, convention reports, photos, etc. Don't miss our back issues. There is a LOT of information contained there and you'll not want to miss anything. If you have questions, drop me a line at sgbruckner@aol.com or bruckner@isnnews.net.

Again, WELCOME!

What's New

Issue #24 A truly SAD day has arrived. The very last issue of the Official Babylon 5 magazine has hit the streets in the UK. Yes, Issue #24 is out. I have not received my copy yet, but while I can't wait to read every page, I truly hate to see this publication coming to an end. My hat is off to Brian Robb, John Freeman, and others who made this publication THE ABSOLUTE BEST!

Letters -- we have a couple of letters! Good comments to be shared with other readers. Thanks for sending them in.

There have been a number of good responses to this week's discussion topic. Be sure to read through them on the Discussion Topic Page.

Added an item on B5 newsletters. If you do one or know of one -- drop me a note and it can be listed on a new B5 Newsletter page. Newsletters are a wonderful way of pulling people together, but they usually need a LOT of help!

NEW WORKS BY JMS

Pulled this from the B5 newsgroups -- thought you'd be interested:

For those who have wanted to see some new stuff from me....

I'm pleased to announce that I've signed a contract to have some of my prose work appear online at www.bookface.com, a brand new and exciting site which will make a wide range of well-known authors and best-sellers available for reading online *without charge* to readers.

These include the following items, which will be rolled out in roughly this order over the coming days and weeks....

My brand new non-B5 short story, COLD TYPE, and in a little while, a reprint of my novelette WE KILLED THEM IN THE RATINGS, which originally appeared in a major mystery anthology. COLD TYPE is a contemporary dark fantasy story in the TWILIGHT ZONE mold.

Of special interest to B5 and Crusade fans...my two unproduced CRUSADE scripts that were written specifically to crank up the overall story arc: "To the Ends of the Earth," which was to be that season's arc jumper a la "The Coming of Shadows," and the *season finale* "End of the Line." These episodes were written but never filmed. For those who want to know what was planned for the rest of the season and where it was going...this is it.

AND...biggest of all....

In a few weeks, as a thank-you to all the B5 fans who've stayed with us over the years, instead of taking my new novel to auction, through Bookface I'm making it available *free* for online reading. TRIBULATIONS will be serialized on the Bookface site over a period of about a month.

So head on over...I think you'll like what you see.

JOE'S COMICS

Joe has said that his first issue of Joe's Comics -- Midnight Nation has been slated for September. What will it be about?

"It's a contemporary story that doesn't really fit most categories...maybe magic realism comes closest, dark fantasy maybe...it sets some of the tropes of the dark fantasy genre against a modern setting, with a police officer on a quest to recover something taken from him, a search which shows him a side of the country usually not seen, the hidden doors and secret places only glimpsed out of the corner of the eye...."

DRAGON CON SCHEDULE

DragonCon's latest schedule for Babylon 5 panels and presentations is out at Dirk's website http://america.net/~judge/dcon00.html. Looks Great. There are a lot of Babylon 5 and Crusade panels!

I'm giving two or three presentations plus showing the bloopers. Those are always very enjoyable. My behind-the-scenes presentation is starting to look like some old home movies! Should be fun!

Evan Chen has his own MP3 site at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/113/alien_ear.html.

Bruce Boxleitner's episode of "Outer Limits" will air on June 30.

MAIL FOR CAST AND CREW

The Babylon 5 Fan Club has tried to keep mail going out to the cast and crew, but it is becoming increasingly hard, since people have pretty much scattered and the Club is not always in touch. Rather than sending mail to the Fan Club to be forwarded to the cast member, please begin using any regular fan clubs for the cast.

Here's a recent not from JMS on the subject:

As an aside to folks in general...mail to the cast should these days be sent via their respective fan clubs. As folks have scattered to the four winds, it's become increasingly difficult for the B5 fan club to track people down and get mail to them, and there are often long delays. And we don't really have the staff to handle a lot of this stuff.

JMS' mail can be sent to:

Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

Dear Sandy,

On Sunday,06/04,I was casually viewing VIP, Pamela Anderson Lee's top rated syndicated action/adventure show, and lo and behold who do I see??? A BEARDED RICHARD BIGGS!? He was playing an extortionist trying to get a video tape from a woman; Or Else!!! Quite surprising to see him on such a "different" kind of show!!!

Also, is it me or does anyone else think the woman lead on UPN's Secret Agent Man looks like Tracey Scoggins? She even sounds like her...wow, maybe it's her twin or clone or drone or something else!!!

Sandy,

A bit of news the B5 fans might like to know: Roy Dotrice (Frederick Lantz in "The Fall of Night") won his first Tony Award tonight for Best Actor in a Play. He gave a very nice speech thanking America, Americans, and his wife of 53 years. I don't usually watch award shows, but when I saw that he was nominated, I turned the show on just to see him. I'm glad I watched it.

Thanks Veronica. Mr. Dotrice is a fantastic actor; he was superb as Father in "Beauty and the Beast".

FAN CLUB MERCHANDISE

Comes the Inquisitor Fall of Night

SCRIPTS FOR JUNE

The Babylon 5 Fan Club has two fantastic season two scripts for you this month. They are: "Comes the Inquisitor" and "The Fall of Night". The scripts are available in The Emporium at www.thestation.com. There is a special page over at thestation.com for the scripts -- with some graphics. June Scripts.

OFFICIAL BABYLON 5 MAGAZINES

With the publication coming to an end with issue #24, you'll want to make sure that you have the issues you most care about -- or the entire set. The Fan Club has most of the issues in quantity, so check out The Emporium and pick out the issues you need. Don't know which ones you are missing, let the reference page here at The Zocalo help you out. It has a full index of the magazine so that you can see who was featured and what stories were covered. If you have any other questions about the magazine, just drop me a line.

The Fan Club has most of the back issues of the magazine over at www.thestation.com in The Emporium. Issues #22 and #23 have been added to the listing of available issues. They also have the much sought after Issue #1, Volume #1. So be sure to check out ISN and see what magazines you still need to complete your set.

Cine-Mag

CINEFANTASTIQUE -- JUNE ISSUE

The magazine is MARVELOUS!!! If you get any magazine this year, it should be this one! It is one of the most complete treatments of the series I've ever seen. It not only has some great interviews with cast and crew, but it takes every episode of the series, has a brief synopsis and memorable quote. This combination of narrative about the show and comments from the individuals directly involved with it provides you with nice background of the series. While it can be considered a bit pricey at $11.95, I think it's worth every cent -- and then some!

BABYLON 5 CHATS

Pat Tallman and Jeffrey Willerth have a chat room at their site Starglaziers. You can also get there through Pat Tallman's site.

There are a couple of regular chats that you might want to take advantage. One is over at About.com. Mike Helba has organized a weekly chat on Wednesdays at 10pm EST. http://babylon5.about.com/entertainment/babylon5/mpchat.htm.

On the first Sunday of the month, there is a chat at Groucho's Babylon 5 Calvalcade beginning at 5:30pm ET. Groucho's is a good place to drop over and chat anytime.

REFERENCE PAGES

I've updated the B5 index . This page covers magazines like DreamWatch, TV Zone, StarBurst and others that have covered Babylon 5 and Crusade over the last several years. This index will expand as I add more issues and new magazines.

The Official Babylon 5 Magazine is indexed here as well. With the closure of the magazine in May, you'll want to see which magazines you have -- and which ones you will want to collect. The index may help you make a decision on which ones to choose. The Fan Club has many of the issues at thestation.com , making it very easy to complete your collection.

If you have magazines that have featured Babylon 5 or Crusade that are not listed, send along their issue number and a note to indicate what the article was about. It would be nice to have a fairly comprehensive listing of Babylon 5 publications here.

SEND A B5 POSTCARD

Warner Bros. has a Babylon 5 postcard delivery service on their site at Babylon 5 Cards. Send a note to a friend to say Happy St. Patrick's Day or just to say HI.

Endgame is the episode included in this month's Station Log and Lou Anders finishes up the JPL Connection. Don't forget the wonderful Babylon 5 Chronology. There are another 15 pages in this issue!

THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION TOPIC

OK, here's a hard one (maybe):

If you were describing Babylon 5 to a friend who had never seen the show before, what would be the one thing that makes it stand out over other science fiction (or other TV programs in general)?

Send in your responses to either TheZocalo@aol.com or b5web@aol.com.. You can also post your comments on the message board at www.isnnews.net/board. To see what other readers have posted on this and other topics, follow this link to Current Discussion Topic page.
