ERAGON: Fox 2000 has hired a writer to adapt the young readers fantasy novel ERAGON into a screenplay. Peter Buchman (JURASSIC PARK III) has landed the job. ERAGON is set in a land of fantasy where fantastic races such as elves, dragons and evil beings called Shades live. When a young boy discovers a blue stone high in the mountains, his life is forever altered and he is thrust into danger, loss and adventure as he discovers his destiny as a Dragon Rider. Thursday, February 19:
ANGEL: With the news of cancellation spreading, co-creator Joss Whedon told TV Guide Online that he doubts the series could move to UPN next year, much as its predecessor show BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER did when cancelled by The WB. "We've talked about the possibility, but it's a long shot." Rumor has it, however, that executives at ANGEL's production studio Twentieth Century Fox are putting together a proposal for UPN.
With the series finale now looming large, Whedon reiterated that he'd love to have BUFFY star Sarah Michelle Gellar make a guest appearance in the final episode, but Gellar has already said she's not interested in appearing on ANGEL this season. With the closure of the series, perhaps she could change her mind. Gellar is currently in Tokyo shooting THE GRUDGE, a supernatural horror film.

SHOWTIME: The first and second seasons of the international Emmy Award-winning children's fantasy series THE MAGICIAN'S HOUSE and the seven-episode thriller STRANGE have been acquired by Showtime Networks from the BBC Sales Co. Variety reports that both series will make their U.S. debuts on Showtime multiplex channels this year.

THE JACKET: Written by Massy Tadjedin, THE JACKET centers on a soldier convicted of murder who, during his treatment in a psychiatric hospital, begins to believe that he is traveling through time. Through his time travel, he searches for a woman he met as a child and is fated to love. Currently filming in Glasgow, Scotland, the Hollywood Reporter indicates that Mackenzie Phillips has replaced Anne Lambton, who had to leave the project due to illness. John Maybury directing the project being produced by Peter Guber, Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney. Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley star in JACKET, with Kris Kristofferson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kelly Lynch and Brad Renfro rounding out the cast.

William Petersen CSI: William Petersen, star of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, has said that he will leave the series after fulfilling his contract obligations next season. In the March issue of Playboy, Peterson, who has been critical of the show's producers and CBS for cloning the series said: "I'll do CSI until I legally don't have to do it anymore, which I think is at the end of next year. Right now, that's as long as I can foresee doing this show." {According to CBS officials, his contract has another three seasons to run.} CBS recently announced their plans for a new series called CSI: New York. To this, Petersen told Playboy: "Taking a blueprint of something that was organically conceived and trying to synthesize it is the difference between organic chicken and chicken jerky. There's nothing I can do about that. That's [CBS owner] Viacom, big American capitalism and ratings points." CSI without Grissom would certainly be different!

ELEKTRA: Variety reports that 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises are in talks with Rob Bowman to direct ELEKTRA, the Daredevil spinoff that will star Jennifer Garner. Horseshoe Bay partners Mark Steven Johnson and Gary Foster are producing with Marvel's Avi Arad, with plans to begin principal photography in May. The ELEKTRA script was written by Zak Penn and the plot will draw heavily from the graphic novels "The Elektra Assassin" and "The Elektra Saga," as she battles the Hand, an organization of killers that trained her and then betrayed her. Casting for other parts will begin shortly.

WALT DISNEY: While everyone's attention was focused on the COMCAST/DISNEY action, DISNEY was busy with some moves of their own. The Walt Disney Company announced yesterday that it is in final negotiations to close a deal between itself and The Jim Henson Company. Under the arrangement Disney will purchase all the characters of Henson's MUPPETS and BEAR IN THE BIG BLUE HOUSE properties. The deal encompasses all copyrights of the two properties including past TV and films and products. Lisa Henson, daughter of company founder Jim Henson, in a press release stated that she welcomed the new arragement between entertainment firms. "In the months before his death in 1990, my father Jim Henson pursued extensive discussions with the Walt Disney Co. based on his strong belief that Disney would be the perfect home for the Muppets. As such, the deal we announced today is the realization of my father's dream." Henson will still retain complete ownership of its other properties which include SESAME STREET, FARSCAPE, FRAGGLE ROCK and other shows. Disney has already stated that it wants to bring the Muppets back to network television for a series of specials. The deal is expected to be finalized within two months.

This debut performance, to take place at Montreal, Canada's Salle Wilfried-Pelletier, Place des Arts Concert Hall, launches the North American and International tour of the symphonic work and represents its first ever performance outside of New Zealand. CLASSIC TV SHOWS COMING TO DVD: Warner Bros. Home Video says it plans to release nearly 30 classic television series on DVD over the next five years, including 77 Sunset Strip, Maverick and F Troop. In an interview with USA Today, Mike Saksa, the company's marketing chief, said TV shows on DVD are up 98 percent from last year, with baby boomers the heaviest purchasers. The company said that it decided to release GILLIGAN'S ISLAND first because its research showed that it had "99 percent awareness among DVD households and the highest purchase intent." Other home video distributors also appeared to be stepping up efforts to release classic TV DVD pacakges, many of them containing uncut episodes that have not been seen since the original shows went into syndication.

QUANTUM LEAP: TV Shows on DVD have some great news for fans of time-jumping Sam and faithful sidekick Al. Universal Home Video announced yesterday that QUANTUM LEAP - Season 1 will make the leap home on June 8th. The nine hours of programming that made up the rookie season - including the pilot episode "Genesis" from the out-of-print item - will arrive on 2 dual-sided DVDs, at a $59.98 SRP. Details are thin, with no details on the specs, and no extras are mentioned so far.

Green Hornet GREEN HORNET: Remember Guy Williams and Bruce Lee in THE GREEN HORNET? Variety reports that Kevin Smith ("Jersey Girl") will write and direct THE GREEN HORNET for Miramax Films. Smith expects to have a script ready in time to begin shooting scenes of the masked Hornet and his kung-fu-fighting chauffeur, Kato, by late summer. The film will be based on the venerable character created by Fran Striker and George Trendle for a radio serial that launched in 1936. "I dig the fact that he kicked off a run of billionaire playboys who decided to put on a mask and fight crime, and that he was Batman before there was a Batman," said Smith. Smith hasn't gotten to the casting stage yet, but said he was intrigued by both actors who were linked to the film while it was at Universal. George Clooney had a pay-or-play deal for the title character before Steven Spielberg extricated him to star in DreamWorks' first drama, "The Peacemaker." Jet Li once was linked to the role of Kato.

The film, written by Patrick Edgeworth, will carry a budget of $24.7 million. Jack Thompson portrayed Clancy, a crack horseman, in the "Snowy River" film based on the poem by bush bard "Banjo" Paterson. Producer Mark Pennell declined to confirm reports to Variety that he's talking to Hugh Jackman about playing the lead role. The producer says he will disclose casting in mid-March. The new version will depart from the original but will retain the gruesome "human bodies in wax" element and focus on a group of teens who fall prey to demented killers who have a penchant for encasing their victims in wax. Murray will play one of the teens. The film, written by Chad and Carey Hayes, will shoot in Australia.

DVD BUYING TIPS

Ranger Dave found JEREMIAH nearly $20 less than Amazon's price at DVDsoon.com. Dave used Brian's suggestion and went to www.dvdpricesearch.net and found STARGATE SG-1 Seasons 1,2,&3 for $32.88 each (including ) tax and free shipping). There is even a coupon for $4 off purchases over $100 from that company. Season 4 was listed at a bit over $40.

I understand from Ranger Judy that all CostCo stores don't have the prices mentioned here. Hope some of the other options given help out.

I picked up the Season 5 DVD of STARGATE SG-1 at CostCo yesterday. It was $39.99 and they had all of the previous seasons there as well. I snapped up the last Season 5! I love that place.

Ranger Brian sent along a terrific tip for purchasing any DVDs. Go to http://www.dvdpricesearch.net/. You can do a search on any title and it will find the lowest price for you. It includes mailing information as well. Thanks Brian!

Ranger Frank in Seattle indicates that again, CostCo is saving Babylon 5 fans money!
Costco stores have a limited time sale on the Babylon 5 DVD sets. I went into a Costco in the Seattle area today, and they have seasons 1, 2 and 3 for $59.99 each -- about $25 less than Amazon.com, and $40 less than list price, as I recall. Season 4 is $64.99. But the deal is that if you buy Season 4, you get $20 off any one of the other seasons.

Thanks Frank for passing along the info. Other folks should check out CostCo for Babylon 5 and other DVDs. They usually have very competitive prices.

Now both storylines converge in a 22-episode final season (with dazzling Exclusive DVD Extras!) whose events also include Sheridan's attempts to wage peace for the Interstellar Alliance, the tragic fate of the telepaths and the ultimate fireball destruction of the outmoded station after it is declared to be a spaceway navigational hazard. DISCUSSION TOPIC

I know this isn't Babylon 5, but there are so few good science fiction shows on these days that it is hard NOT to talk about Stargate SG-1. Carrie Dobro David Brooks Peter Woodward on Charmed

Peter Woodward has sent along a new photo -- a rather dreadful one -- from his appearance on CHARMED. It will be added to the collection of photos available from Peter, including additional copies of the Crusade poster in photo format. Both are autographed by Peter.

You do NOT have to pay the prices asked for over at e-bay! Here are photos of B5 and Crusade cast members at fantastic prices. Check out Photo Shop. Ordering is easy -- and you can't beat the prices! Just let me know which photos you want and I'll check to make sure they are still in stock.

People thought a Pen Pal page was a good idea. If you would like to meet people who you could chat with or share your opinions of the show with, send along your e-mail or snail-mail address The Zocalo. It will be incorporated on the new Pen Page Page.

MAIL FOR CAST AND CREW

Here's a recent note from JMS on the subject:

Just an FYI to those who've been using the Ventura Blvd. mail drop for fan mail to actors....

As mentioned before, we're phasing out the forwarding of fan mail because we a) don't have the resources, complicated by b) the actors have scattered to the four winds, and it makes it very difficult to get everything to everybody in a timely fashion.

So, having provided prior notice...fan mail to actors coming to the Ventura Blvd. mail drop will be sent back. Mail to actors should be sent via their official fan clubs. I will still be taking mail there, since it's my mailbox, but that's it.

Just so's y'all know and save a few bucks on postage and returns.
