SMALLVILLE RULES FRIDAY NIGHT
The 200th episode of "Smallville" ruled 8 p.m. Friday night, while NBC's latest reality effort was one of
the night's lowest-rated shows.
"Smallville" (3.2 million viewers, 1.3 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) was up 18% this week and matched
season highs. The lead-in also helped "Supernatural" (2.8 million, 1.2) grow 33% to be very competitive
at 9 p.m.
CW ranked second last night, with CBS winning the evening with a steady medium "Medium" (6.1 million, 1.2),
"CSI: NY" (9.5 million, 1.7) down 11% and and "Blue Bloods" (10.3 million, 1.7) falling a tenth.
ABC and NBC tied for third with the former airing repeats and a news magazine. In addition to "Dateline,"
NBC rolled out new reality show "School Pride" (2.9 million, 0.9), which was down 25% from "Law & Order"
in the hour last year. Fox was in last place with "Good Guys" (2.3 million, 0.8).
BEAVER'S MOTHER PASSES
Barbara Billingsley, one of TV's "ideal" 1950s moms who portrayed the Beaver's mother on "Leave it to Beaver,"
died in Santa Monica, Calif. on Saturday. She was 94 and had suffered from a rheumatoid disease, according to
a family spokesperson.
Beloved by a generation of Baby Boomers, who recall her as the even-keeled June Cleaver, Billingsley was the
quintessential '50s mom. Along with such other primetime "moms" as Harriet Nelson and Donna Reed, she projected
the era's ideal of suburban womanhood.
"Leave it to Beaver" ran from 1957-63. When the series ended, Billingsley retreated from show business, raising
her two boys. She spoofed her good-mother image in "Airplane!" (1980) playing the Jive Lady. She reprised her
June Cleaver role in the 1983 TV movie, "Still the Beaver." In 1997, she played Aunt Martha on yet another
"Leave it to Beaver" production.
"Leave it to Beaver" star Jerry Mathers said in a statement Saturday, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear
friend and lifetime mentor Barbara Billingsley. She will live in the hearts of her fans as a wonderful actress
and be remembered by her friends as a gracious lady."
He continued, "Barbara was a patient advisor and teacher. She helped me along this challenging journey through
life by showing me the importance of manners, and respect for others. She will be missed by all of her family,
friends, fans and most especially by me."

According to Reuters, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards will be returning as Captain Teague in Disney's
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES. Here's the excerpt:
Depp, who played the lead role in the 1990 movie "Edward Scissorhands," credits Richards for inspiring his
character Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and the two are currently shooting the
series' fourth installment, where Richards reprises his role as Sparrow's father.
Richards previously played the character in 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. It is uncertain
how much screen time he'll get in the new film, hitting 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 20.
In "On Stranger Tides," Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he's
not sure if it's love--or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth.
When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane),
Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman
from his past.

MANIMAL STAR DIES
Simon MacCorkindale, star of the 1980s show "Manimal" and known for his role on "Falcon Crest" and in "Jaws 3-D"
has passed away at the age of 58 after a battle with cancer, reports the BBC.
MacCorkindale was with his wife Susan George at a London clinic at the time of his death. Born in England, the
actor got his start in theatre in London's famed West End. He later moved to the United States where he appeared
on "Dynasty," "Hart to Hart" and "The Dukes of Hazzard," in addition to his roles on "Manimal" and "Falcon Crest."
No one could have fought this disease any harder than he did since being diagnosed four years ago," says wife Susan.
"To me, he was simply the best of everything, and I loved him with all my heart. He will live on in me forever."

CSI: NY
David James Elliott who starred as Cmdr. Harmon "Harm" Rabb, Jr. on "Jag," has been cast on "CSI: NY." David will
play Russ Josephson, the ex-husband of Sela Ward's new investigator, Jo Danville.
V TO PREMIERE IN JANUARY
The countdown to the return of "V" can officially begin now.
ABC announced Friday (Oct. 15) that the second season of the alien-invasion series will kick off on Jan. 4. It
will air at 9 p.m. ET Tuesdays following "No Ordinary Family," in the spot currently occupied by the "Dancing
With the Stars" results show.
The scheduling of "V's" premiere so soon after the new year should probably let it play out its full 13-episode
run before the spring edition of "Dancing" starts in late March.
THE HOBBIT
THE HOBBIT finally has a start date. THE LORD OF THE RINGS director Peter Jackson has finalized a deal to direct
the two-film prequel in addition to co-writing the script and producing. Filming is scheduled to begin in New
Zealand in February, The Wrap reports.
The green light for THE HOBBIT ends a years-long preproduction saga involving financing (Warner Bros. and the
financially shaky MGM are co-producing it), a director -- Guillermo del Toro initially signed on, then dropped
out, and Jackson wavered for some time before agreeing to helm the project -- and other issues. In fact, not
all those issues are yet resolved: Negotiations over whether THE HOBBIT will use Screen Actors Guild members
are ongoing.
Sets are ready to go, and some actors -- including Sir Ian McKellen, who will reprise his LOTR role as Gandalf --
are already signed. The Wrap says Martin Freeman, who starred in the British version of "The Office," is a contender
for the lead role of Bilbo Baggins.
The first HOBBIT film is tentatively scheduled for release in December 2012.
Finally, the only posters we've seen promoting Michel Gondry's upcoming THE GREEN HORNET haven't shown us
anything more than a logo. No hero, no sidekick ... and no souped-up super-car. That's just changed.
Columbia Pictures has just released the new poster below. Will it have some sort of glowing hologram effect
going on when we actually see it in theaters? We can't quite tell, but check it out for yourself below.

Synopsis

Review:
JONAH HEX is a western version of Death Wish or other vengence-based dramas. This movie is a mix of environments --
switching from comic book sketches to live drama; further seating it into the legend of JONAH HEX as read for
years by comic book fans. Josh Brolin is good as the solemn bounty hunter who has special powers over the dead.
The best part of the movie, I hate to say, are the toys! Lance Reddick (Fringe) supplies Hex with some unbelievable
firepower.
This is not your old fashioned western with indepth characterizations or plot. The story is a simple one - revenge.
The one-liners are awesome though.

Review:
This is one of my favorite shows. I was biting my nails waiting for word of renewal for the coming year and was
very pleased when it came. Can't wait to see what Chance and the gang get into this year.
The nice thing about this series is that each character is being developed. You learn a little more about Chance
and Winston and Guerrero -- but only a little at a time. There is no great exposition that gives you the backstory
for each of them. That is what is so enticing about the show. Who is Christopher Chance?
In addition, the guest stars included in episodes are awesome -- Lee Majors, Lennie James, Armand Asante and Amy
Acker just to name a few.
This show is just "cool."
HE'S YOUR DOG, CHARLIE BROWN

I am SO happy that the WB is releasing the Charlie Brown series again. All of the DVDs are wonderful -- with
good stories and clean fun. This classic is from 1968 when life was quite different, yet these stories have
stood the test of time. Kids will love watching Snoopy go off to boot camp and you might harken back to the time
when you were packed off to summer camp as a kid. To say these movies bring back memories, is to just scratch
the tip of the iceberg.
Also included in this special release is LIFE IS A CIRCUIS, CHARLIE BROWN and SNOOPY'S HOME ICE: THE STORY OF THE
REDWOOD EMPIRE ICE ARENA.
SUPERMAN/BATMAN: APOCALYPSE
Warner Home Video, UGO.com and The Paley Center for Media proudly present the bi-coastal World Premieres of
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, the highly anticipated next entry in the ongoing series of DC Universe Animated
Original PG-13 Movies, in Los Angeles on September 21 and New York on September 23. Filmmakers and members
of the voice cast will attend both events for red carpet media interviews and post-screening panel discussions.
In SUPERMAN/BATMAN: APOCALYPSE, a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor -- leading Batman and Superman
to encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon
revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth.
However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid
abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and
Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown,
deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.

Review:
SUPERNATURAL is one of those series that you just can't get enough of. Each episode is well written -- and well acted.
The series doesn't get the recognition that others do, but it is definitely a quality product. There seems to be something
for everyone. The plots are sculpted so that there is nothing wasted. You must pay attention though -- seemingly small
things will come back up later in the series! When you look back over the last season, you begin to pick out your
favorite episodes -- only to have them replaced by the new season! Dean and Sam Winchester are a winning pair!

Review:
It is amazing to think that this series has been on for 10 years now. It just seems to get better and better and I will be
said to see it end this year. However, season nine may be one of the best for SMALLVILLE. Clark continues to struggle with
his destiny, but he keeps inching closer and closer as he spends more time learning from his father, Jor-el. While Lex Luthor
had been the primary villain in years past, this season finds Major Zod as Clark's adversary. Callum Blue is marvelous as Zod.
The relationship between Clark and Lois really take off and it is fun to watch. The underlying drama of Oliver sinking into
a very dark place. You keep hoping he'll find himself -- and return to the Green Arrow.

This is one show that I have loved from the start. The chemistry among the cast is awesome -- and it has continued through
the second season. Watching the relationships grow (and fall) has been what keeps me coming back each week. What new
creature or disease will they feature this week? Will Olivia and Peter get together? Will Peter learn who he really is?
These are all questions that continue throughout the entire season -- and more are added. If you like a show that makes
you think a little, then FRINGE is for you. You need to pay attention so that you don't miss anything. THis is a smart
drama that has many, many facets. Just when you think you've figured it out -- they throw you a curve ball. Now on DVD,
you can watch some of the more intense episodes -- just to make sure you haven't missed anything. Caution: Don't start
watching the DVD late at night. You won't want to stop watching until you've gone through the whole thing!

BABYLON 5 MUSIC VIDEOS AND TRIBUTES
I found this message on the Babylon 5 moderated newsgroup this morning and just
had to post it so that others might enjoy the marvelous music videos created by
John Hudgens.

As some of you may know, I was hired by Joe Straczynski back in the
day to create Babylon 5 music videos for him to use at science fiction
conventions, and later to promote the show to networks. Eight were
produced over the run of the series, not including the memorial videos
I did later for Rick Biggs and Andreas Katsulas.
For the longest time, the only way to see these was if Joe or I showed
them at a convention, but now, after numerous requests from fans over
the years, Joe has given me permission me to post these online.
- This is the extended version that I did for Andreas' widow ater the
original cut was released on the net. It's never been seen online
until now.
For those of you who've never seen these, I hope you enjoy them - and
for those that have (and emailed me many times over the years about
releasing them), I hope they're as good as you remember. Working with
Joe on these videos was one of the highlights of my career, and I'll
be forever grateful to him for the doors these have opened for me. I'm
proud to have them on my resume.

COMIC BOOKS
Over the long summer break, Fringe has been quietly releasing comic books.
Tales from the Fringe has been revealing character backstories unrevealed on the show. Comic #1 followed Peter’s
exploits in Iraq, while #2 followed Broyles’ first encounter with the alien from “Earthling.” Astrid became the
focal point of issue #3, where we learned how she came to join the FBI, while the fate of Nina’s arm in the aftermath
of the events of “Peter” was seen in issue #4. Gene the Cow’s dreams will be the focus of #5, out later this month,
and Olivia’s “early days in the Fringe division” will be the subject matter of next month’s #6.
You can order back issues of each comic for only a couple of bucks from Amazon.com, and you can also get the
big paperback compilation of the six issues for only $10.11. Of course, you’ll have to wait a while for the
144-page volume: it’s not slated to land until January.
