BRIEF REVIEW: I LOVED THIS MOVIE!
There aren't many movies about impending death that you can say are funny, full of wit and uplifting. I am a big fan of Morgan Freeman. This actor has limitless range and he proves again that he can take any role and make you care about the character. He and Jack Nickolson are marvelous together -- playing off each other, making you laugh and cry. You hear the phrase often, "Life's too short." What would you do if you had only a short time to live.

I love movies like this -- something you can watch with your kids -- or just enjoy on your own. WATERHORSE is beautifully filmed, capturing the beauty of Scotland.
The movie tells the legend of the water horse that lives for one generation and when he is ready to die, lays an egg from which a new water horse is hatched to grow up on its own. Angus McMurrow is a troubled young lad, his father has gone off to war and he and his mother and sister are left to manage their farm. Their world is invaded by British soldiers coming to protect England from the Germans, presenting new challenges for young Angus. He finds the water horse egg and when it hatches, he helps the creature grow by feeding it scraps and keeping it in the bath tub. This story may bring back memories of ET for some.

STARGATE ATLANTIS - SEASON FOUR
Season four of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate Atlantis drops on DVD July 8 from MGM Home Entertainment. The DVD set of the fourth season--in which former Stargate SG-1 star Amanda Tapping joins Atlantis as a regular cast member-- is timed to the release of the new feature-length DVD and Blu-ray premiere of STARGATE CONTINUUM on July 29. Synopsis:
The fifth season of "Nip/Tuck" continues where the fourth season left off. Following his divorce from Julia (Richardson), Sean (Walsh) sold his half of McNamara/Troy and departed Miami for Los Angeles. Having ended his engagement, Christian (McMahon) soon followed, thus relocating McNamara/Troy to the West Coast. Synopsis:
PICTURE SNATCHER (1933): An admirably tough B-picture enlivened by an energetic James Cagney performance, Picture Snatcher stars Cagney as Danny Kean, a former gangster who has decided to go straight after a stretch in the big house. Danny has fallen for Patricia (Patricia Ellis), the daughter of the cop who put him away (Robert Emmett O'Connor). Dad isn't convinced that Danny has left his life of crime behind him, and he isn't too impressed with his new career taking pictures for a sleazy tabloid newspaper. Between getting a lurid photo of a fireman in front of a burning building (where his wife and her lover met their fate) and a daring shot of a woman being executed (based an actual incident when a New York Daily News photographer got a photo of Ruth Snyder in the electric chair), Danny's work is selling papers but hardly making Officer O'Connor think his daughter is in good hands (especially since he was in charge of press security for the execution). Short, sweet and sassy, Picture Snatcher is the sort of gutsy fare Warner Bros. did best in the 1930's; Ralph Bellamy turns in a great supporting performance as Danny's boozy editor LADY KILLER (1933): Based on the novel by Carson McCullers, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter stars Alan Arkin as John Singer, who is deaf. Singer moves from a small town in order to be close to his institutionalized deaf and mentally impaired friend Antonapoulos (Chuck McCann). Singer rents a room with a family whose father, Mr. Kelly (Biff McGuire), is unable to earn a living due to a serious injury. His teen-aged daughter Mick (Sondra Locke, in her film debut) is at first resentful of Singer's presence, but he ingratiates himself by introducing her to classical music (which he can "feel," if not hear). Singer likewise tries to brighten the lives of such unfortunates as alcoholic Blount (Stacy Keach Jr., also making his first film appearance), dying black doctor Copeland (Percy Rodriguez), and Copeland's poverty-stricken daughter (Cicely Tyson).
SMART MONEY (1931):Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney were teamed for the only time in their careers in Smart Money. Robinson has the larger part as a small-town barber who fancies himself a big-time gambler. He travels to the Big City in the company of his younger brother Cagney, who wants to make sure that Robinson isn't fleeced by the high-rollers. Unfortunately Robinson has a weakness for beautiful blondes, most of whom take him for all his money or betray him in some other manner. The cops aren't keen on Robinson's gambling activities, but they can pin nothing on him until he accidentally kills Cagney in a fight. The incident results in a jail term for manslaughter, and a more sober-sided outlook on life for the formerly flamboyant Robinson. Watch closely in the first reel of Smart Money for an unbilled appearance by Boris Karloffas a dope pusher.
BLACK LEGION (1937): Factory worker Frank Taylor believes that he has missed out on a deserved promotion when it is instead given to a Polish immigrant. Angry and looking for a scapegoat, he is an ideal mark for the Black Legion, an underground group who want to get rid of immigrants and racial minorities through violent means. Frank joins the Legion, and with his new friends, he dons black robes and drives the Polish family from their home. His aim achieved, Frank gets his job, but soon the Legion begins to take up more of his time and money, and turns his character darker and darker. He leaves his wife, begins to drink heavily, and soon is on a downward spiral.
MAYOR OF HELL (1933): Five members of a teen-age gang, including leader Jimmy Smith, are sent to the State Reformatory, presided over by the melodramatically callous Thompson. Soon, Patsy Gargan, a former gangster appointed Deputy Commissioner as a political favor, arrives complete with hip flask and blonde. Gargan falls for activist nurse Dorothy and, inspired by her, takes over the administration to run the place on radical principles.

BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHT

I AM LEGEND

Synopsis:
Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows... watching Neville's every move... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Synopsis
The next installment in the Appleseed franchise, Appleseed: Ex Machina, available on DVD! Based on the manga from reknown creator Shirow Masamune, in this movie, Deunan and Briareos are both partners and lovers. The two fighters find their partnership tested in a new way by the arrival of Tereus who uncannily resembles Briareos before the wartime injuries that led to his becoming a cyborg. JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER

BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHT

Yesterday Warner Premiere and DC Comics officially announced the voice cast for BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHT:
Kevin Conroy, the bench mark by which fans compare all Batman voices, returns to the title role in BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHT, the third release in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie series from DC Comics, Warner Premiere, Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Animation. The all-new, original movie will be released on July 8, 2008 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, as well as OnDemand and Pay-per-View. The film will be available for download on the same date.

MY REVIEW
It's Easter and here is a wonderful movie to watch with your kids. All of us have had Charlie Brown in our past -- whether through the movies or the comics in the newspaper. Charlies Brown's Christmas tree is still one of my favorites and adding this movie to my collection will give the kids (and grown ups) in my family a new classic to watch each year.

The extras on the disk include IT'S ARBOR DAY, CHARLIE BROWN. It gives you some background on the holiday and you may just learn a little something you didn't know about it. Baseball fans may enjoy this one more than the Easter Beagle!

THE INVADERS

As I was wondering about looking for news this morning, I spotted a link for the upcoming release of the first season of THE INVADERS. It can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com so that it will arrive near the release date. It was the perfect mix of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "The Fugitive". Created by the brilliant Quinn Martin, who produced other outstanding series like The Untouchables and the Streets of San Francisco, there are few that rival THE INVADERS for their imagination and production values. Though this series premiered in 1967, it still ranks as #6 on thee TV Guide List of Twenty-Five Greatest Sci-Fi Legends. Roy Thinnes is marvelous as architect David Vincent. As the opening narrative states: "Now, David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here; that they have taken human form. Somehow, he must convince a disbelieving world, that the nightmare has already begun..."

With the weak attempts being made at science fiction these days, it might be good for folks to look at some of the old favorites, like THE INVADERS, to see that good TV series are possible.

If you enjoy dance and true artistry, you will love this DVD. The music is awesome, but the dance is amazing. The precision dance performed by the Riverdance company is just astoundingly beautiful. One can only think of how many hours of practice it has taken to bring this marvel of dance to theaters -- and now to DVD for everyone to enjoy. Jean Butler and Colin Dunne ar the principal dancers with Maria Pages, Katie McMahon and Morgan Crowley also starring in this feature. I am at a loss for words to adequately describe the marvel of Riverdance.

Description:
The crew of the Odyessy, a space shuttle orbiting above the Earth's surface, looks on in horror as the Earth explodes before their eyes. The Legend of the Rangers pilot movie deals with the Ranger crew of the Liandra, a semi-organic ship based on Minbari technology. The Rangers encounter a previously unknown alien race, called the Hand, whose lethal power is far greater than any force previously known to Earth or any other world in the Interstellar Alliance. The Legend Of The Rangers is a movie spin off from the hugely popular Babylon 5 series.

While it is sad that there are no extras with this DVD of the last BABYLON 5 project, it is still a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours -- watching a somewhat familiar BABYLON 5 -- seeing Andreas as G'Kar again.

Warner Home Video has announced five Superman-related DVD collections for release on June 20, just prior to the theatrical debut of SUPERMAN RETURNS. Following is a rundown:
* Lois & Clark: The Complete Third Season is a six-disc set that will cost $59.98.
* Superman: The Animated Series Vol. 3 is a two-disc set that will cost $26.90.
* The Adventures of Superboy: The Complete First Season is a four-disc set that will cost $39.98.
* The Adventures of Superman: The Complete Third and Fourth Seasons will be a five-disc set that will cost $39.98.
* Justice League: Season 2 will be a four-disc set that will cost $44.98.

I am a fan of this entire series. Dean Cain and Terry Hatcher are great as Clark and Lois in this iteration of the old classic. The animated series is wonderful. I just finished watching Volume 2 and I enjoyed it very much. The stories are very good and great for children to watch -- with their parents. There is some violence as Superman tries to thwart the baddies, but he does prevail. The same holds true of the ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. I loved this show as a kid and can't wait to see the Third and Fourth Season. Season Two was wonderful and brought back some great memories. (I actually met George Reeves at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh a lot of years ago. It was a time when I had a lot of heroes -- Roy Rogers, The Lone Ranger and Superman. Can't get much better than that!)
The Justice League series has been superb. The writing is good and the animation is very good. They have taken the Saturday-moring cartoon a lot further and given us grown-ups something to watch as well.

THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON

The Adventures of Superman, the Complete Second Season
(Warner Home Video, $39.99)

Before actors Dean Cain and Tom Welling assumed the television role of the Man of Steel, George Reeves delighted 1950s viewers with his interpretation of DC Comics' unstoppable superhero. The 1953 second season of the series arrives on DVD in a five-disc set and delivers all 26 black-and-white episodes, which will make younger viewers scratch their heads at the lame effects and corny plots but allow older fans to take a nostalgia trip into wholesome family entertainment.

The season marked the return of actress Noel Neill as Lois Lane (having previously played her in the 1948 serial and a 1950 film) and plots including Superman battling kryptonite and Earth-destroying meteors and helping a little girl regain her sight. Slick menus mixing comic book page panels and footage from the show lead not only to the individual episodes but extras such as a segment on Noel Neill as Lois, a 12-minute Superman show from 1954 used to promote the U.S. Treasury Department's Saving Stamp program and optional commentary tracks on two episodes by Noel Neill and Jack Larson (Jimmy Olsen).

THE PRETENDER - SEASON THREE

Fox Home Entertainment will release THE PRETENDER Season Three on February 14, 2006. This will be a four-disc DVD set featuring all 24 episodes, including select episode commentary by writers Craig W. Van Sickle and Steven Long Mitchell, and a three-part “Making Of” featurette. In case you missed this show, Jarod is a Pretender - a genius whose exceptionally high I.Q. allows him to master virtually any profession. Still on the run from his ex-captors, Jarod continues to help innocent victims even as he digs deeper into his own background and the secret inner workings of the Centre. At the same time, he also uncovers disturbing facts about Miss Parker’s family, which cause her to question her own life’s work. HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE

Warner Home Video has announced that HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE will debut on DVD March 7. One of my favorite superheros is finally coming to DVD. THE FLASH will be released by Warner Bros. on January 10. The Flash The Complete Series, featuring all 22 episodes making up the entire live-action television series, is now available on DVD and video.
