Saturday, April 23, 2005:

LAND OF THE LOST:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Ferrell will star in the comedy feature LAND OF THE LOST, based on the classic television series of the same name. Universal acquired the feature rights from Sid and Marty Krofft, executive producers of the original television series, who will produce the feature for the studio. The original "Land of the Lost" series revolved around forest ranger Rick Marshall and his children, Will and Holly, who are caught in a time vortex while exploring the Colorado River on a raft and transported to a mysterious world. The feature film will be an update of the series, which ran from 1973-1977 on NBC and is due out on DVD this month.

LOCUSTS:
On April 24, you can catch Lucy Lawless (XENA) in a CBS movie thriller, LOCUSTS. Lawless stars as a Department of Agriculture official desperately battling a deadly breed of voracious, bioengineered insects that have escaped from a government lab. In an interview during the filming in Louisiana, Lawless said, "I play a young gal who has come into the department of agriculture as the undersecretary, which may not sound as sexy to you as it is in reality." Lawless says wryly of her character, Dr. Maddy Rierdon, "... she discovers that one of the scientists, her mentor, has run amok with a program and it all gets out of hand. This dangerous bunch of hybrid locusts escapes from the lab, and the movie is about us hunting them down, with a conspiracy angle to the story as well." (Dylan Neal, David Martel from LEGEND OF THE RANGERS, also stars in LOCUSTS.)

JMS YARD SALE

Update: 4/21/2005 4:11:57 AM

It might be worth mentioning that I think the Medal, and the painting by Peter, are going to be the last really big items. I think I'll keep it to more reasonable stuff after that, mainly scripts, director's cuts, and at the most there's a PPG and a link that might go...but beyond that, I think I'll pull it back. So what's out now goes out, but after that...not so much.

Date: 4/20/2005 1:32:47 AM

A follow-up on this subject....

Tomorrow, the Seeing Double auctions start at 1:00 p.m. PST

By "seeing double" I mean that I have two of these, and there's no reason for me to hold on to both, so I'm putting one of them up in each of these three auctions.

The first two are doubles of my complete He-Man and She-Ra production archives, NOT the scripts, but a truckload of other stuff. Storyboards, art, memos, series bibles, publicity stuff, you name it.

The third one...is the one that I debated about for a long time, but I want this whole thing to be kind of special, to put something that I would want to have as a fan, not just to clear out stuff from the garage. Something...special.

Because that's almost half the fun...knowing these things are going to get good homes, appreciated and shown off.

So what's item number three?

Nothing less than one of the two Medals from the Battle of the Line seen in Sinclair's quarters in the pilot. Both were used on screen, interchangeably. I'm keeping one, and letting the other one go to a fan who can appreciate it.

Yep. THAT medal.

The one that changed everything for the Babylon 5 storyline.

** For those who missed the first announcement, JMS is listed under seller name babylon5auctions. You can search on the name and get a listing of what is now on-line. Someone just pointed out that the Londo doll -- yes the one everyone has wanted -- went for $7211.09.

NEW AND UPCOMING DVDS:

HARVEY BIRDMAN - ATTORNEY AT LAW

Harvey Birdman From TV Tome:
Once, he was known as the aviary superhero called simply Birdman (during the 1967 Hanna-Barbera series, Birdman & The Galaxy Trio. Along with his specially trained pet eagle, Avenger, he fought crime as many others before him, and many others following him, did. Eventually, Birdman fell on hard times, and the hero route went by the wayside. He soon shot a pilot for a talk show (which eventually became Space Ghost Coast To Coast) but it too failed to go anywhere for him as he was (obviously) replaced by Space Ghost.

Finally, at some point, Harvey Birdman was inspired to become a lawyer. Now, as an attorney, he represents his fellow former Hanna-Barbera cartoon stars, in a variety of strange cases. With opposing council made up of his former villains, the Judge a prehistoric superhero named Mightor (of the 1967 series Mighty Mightor) and his pet/partner Avenger working as his personal secretary, Harvey tackles the cases only a guy in a business suit with a mask & large wings can!

SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST - SEASON THREE

Space Ghost Welcome to the Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Space Ghost started out as a scientist, but later was recruited into a member of the intergalactic police. His abilities come from his suit that allows him to fly, and the power bands on his wrists can get him out of almost any situation.

Now, he's a talk show host for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. Much like what they have done for the recent Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law, Space Ghost was an old Hanna-Barbera superhero show, called Space Ghost and Dino Boy.

J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI'S DREAM POLICE

Dream Police #1 Date: 3/27/2005 9:58:19 PM
Babylon 5 Moderated Newsgroup

I'd mentioned a while back that I would remind folks when the stores would begin taking orders for Dream Police...so this is it.

Dream Police will appear as a one-shot on June 22nd, but Marvel has a tendency to print to orders, so if you don't order it up front, it may not be available. Apparently interest is high, so I have a sneaking suspicion this one may disappear fast.

Basically, the premise of Dream Police -- which has been in the works for a long time now, and finally seeing print -- is that we all enter the dreamscape when we fall asleep, and the denizens of said dreamscape all play their roles...but when someone doesn't do their job, or a crime against dreamers is committed, the Dream Police come in.

The thing is...the Dream Police are plain clothes detectives and beat cops who walk, talk and behave like characters out of the Maltese Falcon, or Dragnet, or Adam 12, that very literal, staccato, clipped back-and-forth style of dialogue.

So what you've got is a very funny, weird, surreal book that puts these very noir characters up against the dreamscape...and I'm just pleased as punch with the result.

Hence, this recommendation. There's no long arc to sign onto, just the one issue, but it's just a hoot and a half to read. It's fromm Marvel under the Icon imprint, and I commend it highly to all B5 folks.
